Frank Zappa interview, Pulitzer Hotel, Amsterdam, 1972Digital print on 15o g/m2 Hahnemuhle fine art paper, signed. 450,5 x 37 cm.Shipped carefully packed. Most musicians don't like the press. They see it as a necessary duty, usually as part of their deal with the record company. Not so Frank Zappa. He mostly made time for interviews and photos. A chat of more than two hours was not exceptional. I photographed Frank Zappa several times at the Pulitzer Hotel in Amsterdam.Gijsbert Hanekroot (Brussels, 1945) began his career in 1969 and worked for magazines and newspapers in the 1970s. His career as a photojournalist fit perfectly with the explosion of the rock scene. He masterfully documented the golden age of music history and photographed many of the greatest icons of the era. Hanekroot strove to capture images that revealed the person behind the musician. This resulted in portraits that are natural and intimate, relaxed and sincere. And in dazzling concert photographs. The photographer is represented by Blitz Gallery, Tokyo, Blue Lotus Gallery, Hong Kong, Mondo Galeria, Madrid, Proud Galleries, London and ONO-Arte, Bologna, among others.
