The 1st Battalion / 60 Infranty Division would take the Todtenbruch from Zweifall through the Gieschbachtal to the southeast and from there cut the main road to Lammersdorf around Germeter. On September 20, 1944, American troops reached the northwestern edge of the Todtenbruch. However, unexpected difficulties arose with the wooded and swampy terrain. For the first time they had to fight a forest battle that was completely unknown to them. The bunkers here were fought hard and expensively here. On September 26, 1944, the broken heart was largely in American hands.
